Therapy
Therapy is intended to help a person manage their feelings, behaviours and thinking patterns better.
Dr. Halliday works with children, youth, young adults, and caregivers in service of these goals. Primary areas of practice include:
Anxiety
Low mood and depression
Trauma
Self-regulation and daily functioning in neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., ADHD, Autism)
OCD
Coping with chronic and acute medical conditions, and the overlap between physical and psychological symptoms (e.g., Somatic Symptom Disorders, Functional Neurological Disorders)
Sometimes this work is done altogether (e.g., therapy sessions with caregivers and children at the same time), while at other times, therapy sessions are primarily with one individual.
Dr. Halliday strives to be client-centred, trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive. He draws primarily from interpersonal, emotion-focused, mindfulness-based and cognitive-behavioural therapies.
Appointments are available for individuals ages 8-25, as well as caregivers, currently residing in British Columbia.
Appointments are offered in person or virtually through Zoom.
Get Started
Step 1: Complete an intake
Please complete an intake form to share your reasons for seeking therapy. Your form will be reviewed and you will be invited to arrange an initial appointment.
Step 2: Initial appointment
After completing your intake form, you have an initial appointment where Dr. Halliday will start to develop an understanding of your primary concerns and goals for treatment. It can sometimes be helpful to meet for a longer initial appointment (80 minutes instead of 50) when both parents and children/youth are present. This allows for time to be spent altogether, as well as separately with both parent(s) and the child/youth.
Step 3: Subsequent appointments
After your initial appointment, it is often useful to schedule a series of appointments to work towards your goals. These appointments may be as frequent as weekly or biweekly initially, and often become less frequent over time. Most research studies suggest that the benefits of therapy are seen after 8-10 sessions; however, there are many factors that influence the number of sessions a client may have.
